After a successful puzzle-solving initiative from the Mortal Kombat 11 discord community, they uncovered a special little trailer for Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath. It zeroes in on one very specific element of the upcoming DLC, in fact: RoboCop’s brutalities. Both of the finishing moves are appropriately blood-drenched, and both reference famous scenes from the original 1987 movie. Spoiler alert, I guess.
The first brutality is a reference to the death of Alex Murphy. It begins with a brutal volley of gunfire, and ends with a shot to the hand, and, lastly, one to the face. In the movie, it’s a symbolic crucifixion; here, it’s a thing you know, so you should cheer. The second brutality is a crotch-shot, which, in the movie, happens to a rapist that defies RoboCop’s order. I;m honestly surprised that he doesn’t say “Your move, creep” afterwards, that being a famous line of dialogue.
So, there you have it; as a character in Mortal Kombat 11, RoboCop brings the cartoonish violence and all the movie references you can handle. In that sense, he’s no different to other movie crossovers in the Mortal Kombat franchise. It does, however, completely undermine the satire and anti-violence commentary of the movie, which is a bummer. Then again, RoboCop 3 exists, so that boat has sailed anyway. Yes, I am salty, and yes, I am going to stop now.
Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is coming out on May 26th. There’ll be free content for all players; namely, Friendships and new stages. For the paying customer, there will be several new story missions, and three characters: Sheeva, Fujin, and, of course, RoboCop. If you already own the game, you’ll have to pay $40 for the privilege. If, on the other hand, you haven’t purchased your copy of MK11, you can get that and Aftermath for $60. Meanwhile, you can check out RoboCop’s Brutalities for yourself in the video below.
