Here’s a fun fact: did you know that the notion of chameleons changing color to hide from predators is actually an urban legend? Chameleons change color to reflect their moods or to adjust their bodies to different temperatures. Any camouflage they achieve is just a coincidence. Of course, that doesn’t stop fictional depictions of chameleons like Kecleon from being able to turn invisible, but I guess that’s more fun anyway. Speaking of, is Kecleon coming to Pokémon GO?

This Saturday, April 24th, is the first of a new recurring event for Pokémon GO: Friendship Day! It’s a day to have fun with all of your favorite, friendly Pokémon, and enjoy some cool bonuses in the meantime. This first iteration of Friendship Day will be all about Grass-type Pokémon, and will feature some lovable faces like Chikorita, Sunkern, and Foongus. And also Tangela, I guess. Currently, no new additions to the Pokémon GO PokéDex have been announced, but some eagle-eyed fans have a sneaking suspicion that Kecleon may be on its way.

Is Kecleon Coming to Pokémon GO?

If you look closely at that promotional image up there, specifically at the sunny stripe on the tree behind Tangela, you may notice what appears to be the circular eyes of a Kecleon, while the rest of its body is, as one would expect from a Kecleon, camouflaged in the foliage. Niantic obviously hasn’t officially confirmed or denied this theory, and for all we know, that could just be a knothole on the tree or some image artifacting.

However, it should be noted that, assuming that actually is Kecleon hiding in the background, this wouldn’t be the first time Niantic has subtly teased a new PokéDex addition. Smeargle was teased by the presence of green paint in AR photos, and more recently, fans have sworn they’ve spotted the shadowy outlines of Sylveon and Arceus in various promotional images. Though, granted, only one of those has actually been true. So far, anyway. So we don’t know for sure at the moment if Kecleon will make a special appearance during Friendship Day, but if it does, I know I wanna make friends with it.
