In the mainline Pokémon games, most berries had helpful in-battle effects, like restoring HP or curing status ailments. Some berries introduced later on, though, were primarily used for making poffins or PokéBlock, mostly for prepping Pokémon for contests. Among those were the Nanab Berry (and yes, that’s just “banana” spelled backwards with an “a” taken out). In Pokémon GO, though, Nanab berries have a much more practical use, making obtaining them a worthwhile endeavor. Here’s how to get Nanab Berries in Pokémon GO.

When catching Pokémon in Pokémon GO, feeding it a Nanab Berry will calm it down, making it jerk around less and, by extension, much easier to catch. As it so happens, one of the new Field Research Tasks for the Season of Legends is “Use three Nanab Berries to help catch Pokémon: Magnemite.” If you happen to have a stash of Nanab Berries locked and loaded, this is a pretty easy task, but if you’ve been using them on every wild encounter, you may be running short.

How to Get Nanab Berries in Pokémon GO

Luckily, Nanab Berries aren’t especially rare, and you replenish your supply by just playing the game normally. Nanab berries can be obtained from spinning the signs above Gyms and PokéStops, provided they’re at least level 4, though they also dispense other berries, so you’re gonna need to rely on the ol’ RNG for that. Certain Field Research Tasks will also reward you with Nanab Berries, so if you have the time, it might be worth taking those on. Finally, you can get more Nanab Berries as a reward for simply leveling up. If you happen to be a newer player, this is to your advantage, since it’s obviously easier to level up when you’re lower level. If you’re higher level, you can still get the berries this way, but it’ll probably take a lot longer.
