Zangoose and Seviper are considered mortal enemies with one another. Whenever one sees the other in the wild, they immediately drop everything for a claw-versus-fang battle to the end. This is, obviously, a reference to the antagonistic nature between mongooses (or is it mongeese?) and snakes. Even without Seviper in the picture, though, Zangoose is a rough customer to go head-to-head with. Here’s how to beat Zangoose in Pokémon GO.

In deference to their generation-spanning feud, Zangoose and Seviper are the stars of the currently running Rivals’ Week event in Pokémon GO, which means the two of them are heading up various three-star raids all over the world. Of the two, Zangoose is debatably the harder one to deal with, as while Seviper’s pure Poison typing gives it more resistances, Zangoose has higher base stats.

How to Beat Zangoose in Pokémon GO

As a pure Normal-type, Zangoose only has one weakness and one resistance, those being Fighting and Ghost, respectively. With a 222 base attack and a 124 base defense, any half-hearted measures against Zangoose will leave you beaten and shredded before you know what happened.

Zangoose has the following moves in its kit:

Quick Moves

  • Fury Cutter (Bug)
  • Shadow Claw (Ghost)

Main Moves

  • Dig (Ground)
  • Night Slash (Dark)
  • Close Combat (Fighting)

Since it’s the only thing Zangoose is weak against, your best course of action is to pack a Fighting type, though since Fighting types are weak against Bug moves, you’ll want one that can take some punishment. Machamp, Lucario, and Conkeldurr would be the ideal choices, especially Shadow Machamp if you can swing it for that extra damage boost. All three can use Counter for a quick move, and for their main moves, Machamp and Conkeldurr can use Dynamic Punch, while Lucario can use Aura Sphere.

Zangoose is undoubtedly a tough customer, but if you can trade enough damage with it on a consistent basis, you should still come out on top in the end.
