Borderlands 3 Face-puncher legendary shotgun is a new legendary weapon that you can get in the game. The Face-puncher shotgun has relatively limited use, depending on your build, but it is ultimately a very, very interesting weapon that you might want to get your hands on. So, in our Face-puncher Legendary Shotgun Location in Borderlands 3 guide, we’re going to show you where you can find the Face-puncher more easily, as well as how the legendary shotgun works.
How to Get Borderlands 3 Face-puncher Legendary Shotgun?
To get the Face-puncher legendary shotgun in Borderlands 3, you’ll have to acquire it as a random drop in the world. Yes, unfortunately, you are at the mercy of the RNG gods when it comes to this weapon. However, there is a way to fudge the odds in your favor, because there is one mini-boss that has a higher chance of dropping the Face-puncher; at least, at the time of writing.
The mini-boss in question is Handsome Jackie, whom you can find in Skywell-27, on the Observation Deck. You might have already encountered her before in the Targets of Opportunity crew missions. Even if you have, though, don’t worry; she’ll respawn every time you revisit the area. If you don’t know where exactly you can find Handsome Jackie, check out our Targets of Opportunity Locations Map guide.
Now, of course, odds are that killing Handsome Jackie is not going to immediately grant you the Face-puncher legendary shotgun. That’s no problem, though; just keep returning until you get the drop. If, however, Gearbox changed things up, and Jackie no longer has an increased chance to drop the shotgun, then, well, there’s not much I can do for you.
How Does Face-Puncher Legendary Shotgun Work in Borderlands 3?
The Face-puncher legendary shotgun in Borderlands 3 is a very strange beast. Namely, even though it’s a gun, it deals melee damage. Which has its ups and downs. Because it deals that type of damage, enemies immune to melee and things like cars won’t take any punishment from the Facepuncher. On top of that, the shotgun itself can’t score any criticals; the reason being that melee attacks can never crit.
Now, the Facepuncher legendary shotgun does seem somewhat hampered on its own. However, there are two artifacts that you can stick on it to make it way more versatile. The artifacts in question are Unleash the Dragon and White Elephant (to find out how to get Unleash the Dragon, check out our Borderlands 3 Rare Spawn Hunt Locations guide). The former gives you incendiary rounds, and the latter turns your shots into sticky bombs. And, best of all, this allows you to deal all that melee damage AND also score critical attacks.
So, yeah, the Face-puncher is mainly a weapon for melee builds. If you have any other build, the merits of this legendary shotgun become pretty debatable. Ultimately, of course, it’s up to you to decide if the Face-Puncher legendary shotgun is for you. Good luck.
