According to an update on the official Twitter page of CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 as a new launch date – September 17th. The reason for the delay is the usual one for delays: the team simply needs more time for playtexting, ironing out the kinks, final polishing; you get the idea. And, if you ask me, let them take all the time in the world they need.
Well, it was all a little too good to be true, wasn’t it? Everybody has been gearing up to sink their teeth into the goodness that Cyberpunk 2077 is sure to be for so long. Finally, April was on the horizon, and only a few months separated us from the game. Unfortunately, Cyberpunk 2077 is not going to come out in April. According to the official CD Projekt Red Twitter account, the new release date for the game is Thursday, September 17th, 2020. Yes, I know, I’m just as sad as you are.
As the announcement reads: “We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive – full of stories, content, and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.”
The post also promises that they’ll be putting up “more regular updates on progress” as the new release date draws closer, which I welcome wholeheartedly. And, much like the fans on Twitter, I think that delaying the game to polish it to perfection is always, always, always the better choice than rushing it out the door. CD Projekt Red are celebrated everywhere for the excellence of their games, and people will expect nothing less with Cyberpunk 2077. Good luck, CDPR.
